Cedarosaurus, New Sauropod Found in Utah

BrachiosaurusCedarosaurus, a new genus of sauropod was recently found in Utah, USA. A partial skeleton of this long-necked, long-tailed plant-eating dinosaur dates from the early Cretaceous period. Cedarosaurus was a nasal-crested sauropod whose front legs were longer than the hind legs. The head was small and the legs elephantine.

ferncycadCedarosaurus was named by paleontologists Tidwell, Carpenter and Brooks (published in Oryctos, Dec. 1999, 2: 21-37) . Cedarosaurus means "Cedar lizard;" it was named for the Cedar Mountain Formation in South Central Utah, USA, where the fossil was found. The type species is Cedarosaurus weiskopfae.
